Barry (Baz) Gorman
Died 31st March 2005 aged 52
Manager in Parts Department in a garage until he had to retire due to ill health.
Lived in Exeter in Devon, until the last year of his life when we moved to a bungalow in Exmouth -
Devon to make life easier for him (no stairs or steps).
Son of Joan and the late Don Gorman. Brother to Martin (who passed away aged 18 in 1977 due to
Cystic Fibrosis). Also brother to Julie and uncle to her 2 children Claire and James. I was his wife
for 29 years and knew him for 33 years, since Baz was 19 and I was 15.
Passed away due to Cystic Fibrosis, a disease of the the respiratory and the digestive system, (it
is the most common inherited disease). He was born with Cystic Fibrosis and battled it all of his
life.
Baz was a very brave man and most people wouldn't have known he had such a dreadful illness and
felt very ill a lot of the time as he kept a very brave face on most of the time, and always had a
cheery outlook, he loved a good laugh and a real good sense of humour. He worked full time most of
his working life without a lot of time off sick, he just kept going until he had to give up work in
1996 as his health was getting worse. This went against the grain though he still thought he should
be working! He was a very good "handy man" and could put his hand to fix or make a lots of
things round the home, he liked to keep himself busy. He built a lovely pond in the back garden of
one home and also built a kitchen from scratch in 2 homes, plus loads of other things. He loved to
play his electric guitar and when he was 40 he managed to get his dream guitar a lovely midnight
blue Fender Stratocaster. He also loved motorcaravanning, we had a Renault Trafic van and we
travelled all over the country, Scotland, Wales, England and Southern Ireland, with our pet dogs
first of all Tigs then Barney. He loved his dogs very much.
He was a very good husband and my soulmate. It was a terrible wrench to lose him, it was something I
dreaded but knew it would happen one day. He was 52, this is a very, very good age for someone with
Cystic Fibrosis. He lived his life well and I think he did most of the things he wanted to do in his
life.
